The smallest police station in the world is located in a phone booth on the corner of U.S. 98 and CR67.
This oddity came into being on March 10, 1963. The original “Police Station” was actually a call box that was bolted to a building at the corner of U.S. 98 and Tallahassee Street. The fine citizens took pity on the local policeman who would get drenched while answering the phone in the rain. So when the telephone company decided to replace its worn out phone booth in front of Burda’s Pharmacy with a new one, the old phone booth was fixed up and given to the officer.
Having been featured on television shows such as Real People, Ripley’s Believe It or Not, The Today Show, and Johnny Carson, this piece of Florida history offers you a rare photo op. These days, the Carrabelle Police force has grown to three officers and very comfortable park bench.
